Gillian Bowen-Johnston

Gillian is an illustrator from the Otways, a rainforested, southern region in Victoria.  She specialises in Watercolour, gouache and digital artwork across a range of areas such as books, gift wrapping, food labeling and business commissions. 

Gillian is fascinated with the natural world and collects plants, insects, fossils and natural history books.  She started her career in Japanese ink painting (sumi-e), and developed an art style inspired from chinoiserie, nature and botanical illustrations.  Her enchanting work features bright natural palettes and soft flowing movement.  Her art is detailed, realistic and delicate and features subtle anthropomorphic awareness in her characters.
